Keep that blood pressure in check

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in my 20s. I didn’t feel like anything was wrong with me. The doctor didn’t seem interested in getting to the root cause, even though I was pretty young for a problem like this. He prescribed medication, and I took it. I was on blood pressure medication for many years. It worked, and thankfully I didn’t have any side effects (that I know of).

When I started a medically-supervised ketogenic diet to reverse diabetes, one of the first things that happened was that my blood pressure started to go down, up to the point where I was getting light-headed and dizzy. My doctor then advised me to stop taking blood pressure medicine, and I’ve been off it ever since.

My new doctor said my blood pressure was high in the office, and she asked me to start taking measurements twice a day to get an accurate trend. They call high blood pressure the “silent killer.” But if you feel fine, what’s the big deal?
