My new doctor gave me a referral to a registered dietician. I’ve never worked with a dietician before, and this is the first time a doctor even brought up the idea. I’m a very independent person, and I don’t like asking for help. I’ve been grappling with feeling like a failure that I can’t figure out how to do something as simple as eating properly. And I’m not exactly thrilled to talk to a stranger about my biggest weakness.
I don’t know why I was resistant to seeking help from a professional. I’ve done it for plenty of other areas of my life. I have a financial advisor and rely on tax professionals. I have used the services of an attorney, and I’ve worked with a personal trainer. The benefit of working with unbiased professionals is that they will see things I cannot. Professionals have also worked with many clients and have seen what works in the real world.
