Do you like mushrooms? I will admit I have not been a fan of mushrooms. Someone once tried to order mushrooms on my pizza, and I immediately stopped that. You can add double sausage or double pepperoni and extra cheese, but don’t you dare add mushrooms to my pizza. Or pineapple.

Another time someone asked me if I wanted a mushroom burger. I said, “No, I don’t want mushrooms on my burger.” They said, “No, it’s a portobello mushroom as the burger.” Look, I already have to give up the bun and the chips, and now you want me to give up the actual burger too?

When I was a kid, I somehow had the idea that all mushrooms are poison. Some mushrooms are poisonous, but not the ones you’ll find at your local Piggly Wiggly. So, are mushrooms good for you? It depends on whom you ask.

Dave Asprey lists mushrooms as a kryptonite vegetable in The Bulletproof Diet, though he distinguishes between commonly-eaten and medicinal mushrooms. In the book, his primary concern is that mushrooms encourage yeast growth in the body.
