The 2022 Year in Review

How was your 2022? For many people, it probably couldn’t have been any worse than 2020 or 2021. If you had to pick one word that describes 2022, which would you choose? After some thought, I settled on the word that describes 2022 for me.

Balance.

This year it feels like we emerged from the fog of the pandemic of Everyone’s Favorite Virus™️, but it’s not all a bed of roses. The economy is not great, and inflation is out of control. Somehow, there is still some war going on in Ukraine. Turn on the news for more examples. I choose hope, not fear.

Work used to be the driving force that dictated my days, but now I’m a recovering workaholic. An 8-hr day is just fine, thank you. It’s incredible how much work you can accomplish when you’re not tied up in non-M.E.A.T.Y. meetings most of the day. In the last few months, I’ve been delivering some of the highest-quality output of my professional career. I made good on my promise to use up all my PTO days this year. I accepted a change to my salary, so my pay is no longer tied to billable hours. I choose effectiveness, not stress.

For many years, I’ve felt that my body has been working against me. I’ve tried various methods to lose weight, achieved some success, and then back to square one, or worse. This year, I chose to see a registered dietician, and she has helped me re-frame my…
