Magnesium is a micronutrient that affects how every cell in your body works. It is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. Magnesium is a required cofactor for over 300 enzymatic reactions that affect muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, blood pressure regulation, healthy DNA maintenance, and protein synthesis.

According to the NIH, the recommended daily magnesium intake for adults is 400–420 mg for men and 310–320 mg for women. One study found that nearly two-thirds of the population in the western world is deficient in magnesium.
